When you ask someone about philosophy, they would usually give you stares that scream 'what the hell are you talking about?' or would start blabbing about some very ancient and very dead person who wrote the most esoteric and incomprehensible views of the world known to humanity. Though much of our current knowledge of philosophy stems from these kinds of people, there is no lack of philosophers and wise men in the here and now-a lot of us just don't know it yet. today in history
Eschewing the stereotype that a philosopher has to be a boring old man who prattles about metaphysics and cosmology are the pop culture philosophers of our time! They may be better at cracking rude jokes, toppling buildings or catching flies with chopsticks than writing a treatise on human nature. Heck a lot of them aren't even real people. But the wisdom that these people impart is enough for them to be called bonafide modern day philosophers. Just relax your standards a bit will you.
- The Hulk: Alright so this gigantic green monster should may not be the most eloquent, persuasive or intelligent characters around but he does tell us a lot about how our anger should never be contained with is smash-mouth, destructive way of going about his business. If you follow this philosophy, the best way to go about things would be the most straightforward way imaginable. And to never, ever repress your feelings. Bravo!
- Angus MacGyver: Now this is more like it. A man that not only became an inspiration of an entire generation but even got a term named after him. Nowadays to 'MacGyver' something is to solve something in a very unique, creative and out-of-the-box manner. Not a bad way to live your life, eh?
- Forrest Gump: Whoever said that the simplest of us are in fact the wisest must definitely have had someone like Forrest Gump in mind. It's not only his devotion to the one he loves, the way he handles life's ups and downs and his general good cheer that make him an amazing philosopher. It's the fact that in the end, it is the simplest and most basic things that really matter. And this is exactly what Forrest Gump personifies.
