A successful team is made up of team members who are interdependent. They are willing to ask for help when they need it and they also offer support when they can provide it. Here are 5 steps you need to bear in mind:
Step 1: Set a specific but attainable goal
We want our team to strive hard for improvement from time to time. However, we need to set a specific but achievable goal for our team players. As a leader, it is your job to make your followers to believe that they are able to accomplish their tasks on time and the volume and quality of work are above par.
Step 2: Remove the obstacles to success
Sometimes, our working process might not be so smooth. It is advisable for you to make a list of the possible obstacles which may block the progress. Let all the team members take part in determining ways to remove the "roadblocks".
Step 3: Make all team players committed to the team goals
Seriously speaking, everyone in a team must know what is going to be done, how it is going to be done and why it is important for him or her to do so. For instance, you inform your team members that they are able to share the rewards if they achieve the goal. To be honest, don't expect people to make sacrifices if they won't get any reward in future.
Step 4: Coach your team members
We have to accept the fact that some team members are not competent enough. In order to make sure that everyone is providing his or her contribution appropriately, we need to guide and coach them with the right strategy. Give extra training or attention to those who need direction.
Step 5: Keep your team members informed
A winning team always wants to know the result. Hence, you need to keep them informed with the progress and outcome from time to time. Let them know how far they have achieved the goal.
